Rainbow Plans Winx Club MMO

Rainbow has tapped Scottish games developer Tsumanga Studios to build a new virtual world for its hit girl’s series “Winx Club.”

Tsumanga Studios is working with Rainbow to design and co-produce an interactive online world that will allow girls ages 7 to 10 to play, collaborate, learn and discover in the Winx Club universe.

The free-to-play game will debut in spring 2013 with a full massively multiplayer online world set to release in the fall. The game will be available in four languages – English, Italian, Russian and French–for all mobile devices and web browsers.

"The digital game represents a strategic new media for Winx Club that will complete its well-established multi-media platform of consumer products applications," says Iginio Straffi, chairman and chief executive officer, Rainbow. “We’re very excited to start this new collaboration with Tsumanga Studios. Winx has all the potential assets to become a digital game success.”

“Winx Club,” now in its fifth season, is the No. 1 IP for girls in Europe, with the roster of licensing products including films, DVDs, toys, clothing, books and video games.
